A resource for Tribal families that include individuals with disabilities
LOV Inc. supports tribal families that include individuals with disabilities.
Our Family Navigator works with families to identify their individual needs through one-on-one consultations and connecting families with resources and services that may be available through county, state, or tribal programs.
We have a partnership with Ho-Chunk Nation Department of Education and work with tribal families enrolled in one or more of the 11 federally recognized tribes in Wisconsin.
Our Family Navigator “wazooki gijire” can help with issues including:
- School & Educational Support
LOV Inc. supports families to advocate for their children’s needs being met through schools, whether through the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) process or other educational supports. We ensure families know what their rights are for special education and facilitate resource connections within the school system. - Disability Services
We work with families at all stages. This includes supporting families who think their child may have a disability and are going through the process of getting a diagnosis, as well as families who already have a diagnosis or an IEP but are not getting the resources they need. Additionally, we can share information and resources to learn more about the following programs:- Children’s Long Term Support (CLTS)
- Include, Respect, I Self-Direct (IRIS)
- Family Care
- Home Modifications
Families may need home modifications to improve accessibility. LOV Inc. can provide information and resources on home modifications, such as ramps, railings, and other features. - Financial Security Resources
LOV Inc. can assist families in identifying resources that contribute to financial security. Some families may be eligible for benefits such as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), home energy assistance, and the Affordable Connectivity Program for internet service. Some families may also be eligible for direct cash assistance through the Social Security and the Supplemental Security Income disability program. - Housing & Food Security
We work with families to provide information and connect with resources that address eviction, safety, tenants’ rights, home purchases, and food and nutrition programs. - Social Connection and Community Building
An important aspect of the Family Navigator project is coming together as a community of families to support one another through social events, educational opportunities, and more. Several times throughout the year, LOV Inc. hosts weekend retreats or family gatherings. Participants share their expertise, experience, and advice. Experts and representatives from organizations may be invited to attend and share information and resources.

“Being a part of LOV Inc. has been an amazing opportunity for my family because we have been able to connect with some amazing caregivers/families amongst our native community who have similar situations that we as a people can relate to. Being able to connect with families that have been where we still haven’t yet navigated lets my family know they are supported. This wouldn’t have be possible without the Tribal Navigator Project and LOV Inc.” – Cristina, participant
