Whether you teach a class, support an event, or lead children’s activities, you will be making a difference… and having a lot of fun while doing so! LOV Inc. is a grassroots organization that supports individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities and their families. As a volunteer, you will help facilitate community events that create safe and meaningful spaces for individuals and their families.
Become a LOV Inc. Volunteer
When you volunteer at LOV Inc., you can feel confident that you will join a warm, welcoming community, and given the resources you need to feel prepared to jump right in. To become a volunteer, the following steps take place:
- Prospective volunteers complete the volunteer application
- LOV Inc. coordinates a 1:1 informational meeting via Zoom or in person
- Volunteers may need to provide a reference or complete a background check
- Volunteers will be matched up with opportunities

Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities
Event Volunteer
Event volunteers may assist in setting up and taking down events, helping at check-in, assisting participants in getting situated, and serving as a resource for participants.
Location: Madison, WI
Hours Available: At least 3 hours/month. Weeknights and some weekends.
Children’s Activities Volunteer
Children’s activities volunteers support children at LOV Inc. events and may lead activities or provide one-on-one assistance. This may be part of our monthly meetings for Spanish-speaking families in Madison or part of our retreats for tribal families in south and central Wisconsin.
Location: Madison, WI or south and central Wisconsin
Hours Available: Varies. Mostly weekends.
Teaching & Mentoring Volunteer
Teaching & mentoring volunteers share their passion and expertise one-on-one or in small groups. Topics have included, but are not limited to, photography, art, cooking, dance, and fitness.
Location: Madison, WI
Hours available: Varies. Can be a single event or ongoing series.
Retreat Volunteer
LOV Inc. hosts day-long or weekend-long retreats occasionally. Volunteers may assist in registration and check-in, supporting children and adults, organizing crafts and activities, and more. If necessary, overnight lodging costs are fully covered.
Location: Various locations in south and central Wisconsin.
Hours available: 4-12 hours, depending on retreat length. Mostly weekends.
Action Team Volunteer
LOV Inc.’s Action Teams help further the goals of LOV Inc. and include the following areas: Education and Outreach, Membership and Social, and Development and Communication. Action Team Volunteers must have at least one year of experience with LOV Inc.
Location: Madison, WI
Hours available: Varies. Weeknights and some weekends, depending on the Action Team.
Volunteer Background Check Policy
The safety and well-being of LOV Inc. members is our top priority. Volunteers may be screened through a background check and may be asked to provide references. Volunteers must not be on the Wisconsin Department of Corrections (WISDOC) Sex Offender Registry, or have a record of violent crimes or crimes against vulnerable populations. Names are checked using Wisconsin Court System Circuit Court Access Simple Case Search (CCAP). Additionally, volunteers who are new residents to the State of Wisconsin may be checked in their previous state of residence.
The background check policy pertains to volunteers within the LOV Inc. organization and does not include volunteers who are part of community organizations with which LOV Inc. may partner. LOV Inc., as an organization, will research partner organizations’ volunteer policies but will assume no liability on that organization’s behalf.
Additional or alternate policies may be developed for specific LOV Inc. projects or groups. The Board must approve these project-specific policies prior to implementation.
